What exactly are Orange Diamonds? Diamonds can occur in nearly any
color, though yellow and brown are by far the most common. The Orange diamond is a member of the Carbon family and is the
hardest substance known. The word Diamond is derived from the Greek word
"adamas" which means "hardest metal" reflecting the property of the
stone. Diamonds with a detectable hue, other than yellow or brown are
known as colored diamonds. If the colour is strong enough, a stone may
be referred to as a fancy colored diamond by the trade. There are

What is the Definition
of a Orange Diamond? Colored
diamonds contain impurities or structural defects that cause the
coloration. The most common impurity, nitrogen, causes a slight to intense
yellow coloration depending upon the type and concentration of nitrogen
present.
Natural Orange diamonds are caused by crystal lattice defects during the
formation of the diamond and the presence of Boron (B).

The traditional properties closely associated with diamonds are

The most famous
Orange diamond is the Pumpkin Diamond. The stone was originally referred
to as the 'Vivid Orange' but it was bought by Ronald Winston on the day
before Halloween and consequently renamed 'The Pumpkin Diamond'. The
Pumpkin is a diamond measuring 5.54 carats and
rated in color as Fancy Vivid Orange. The Pumpkin diamond was
cut and polished by William Goldberg.
In South Africa it has been a common occurrence to see orange diamonds as jewelry
and this
is a custom that has only recently made its way into the rest of the world.
Orange Diamonds in Jewelry
Orange diamonds in jewelry are becoming extremely popular especially for
engagement rings and as solitaires. Orange diamond earrings,
bracelets, necklaces and of course engagement rings and
eternity rings are the most popular types of jewelry. In
1477 Mary of Burgundy became the first known recipient
of a diamond engagement ring given to her by the
Archduke Maximilian of Austria and the history and
tradition of the engagement ring began.
